PAPER FORMAT

Papers for the Interspeech 2018 proceedings should be up to 4 pages of text, plus one page (maximum) for references only. Any paper with text on the 5th page other than references will be rejected.

PAPER PREPARATION GUIDELINES AND AUTHOR’S KIT

Paper submissions must conform to the format defined in the paper preparation guidelines and as detailed in the Author’s Kit. New versions of templates are used for Interspeech 2018 and authors must use these new versions. Authors must not use templates from past years, or re-use past Interspeech papers as templates. Authors must read the format instructions in the template to ensure that their papers comply with the required format.

Author instructions include the following points:

1. The maximum number of pages is five. The 5th page may be used exclusively for references. The references should begin on an earlier page immediately after the Acknowledgements section, and continue onto the 5th page. If no space is available on an earlier page, then the references may begin on the 5th page.

Examples of a few pdfs conforming to this requirement:

2. Please do not reuse your past papers as a template. To prepare your paper for submission, please always download a fresh copy of the template from this webpage and please read the format instructions in the template before you use it for your paper.

3. The total length of the abstract is limited to 200 words. The abstract included in your paper and the one you enter during web-based submission must be identical. Avoid non-ASCII characters or symbols as they may not display correctly in the abstract book.

4. The maximum number of authors in the author list is twenty. If the number of contributing authors is more than twenty, they should be listed in a footnote or in acknowledgement section, as appropriate.

5. Authors are requested to submit PDF files of their manuscripts. The PDF file should comply with the following requirements:
(a) there must be no PASSWORD protection on the PDF file at all;
(b) the file must be text searchable (do CTRL-F and try to find a common word such as ‘the’) and
(c) all fonts must be embedded*.

6. Authors should not use logos in acknowledgement section; rather authors should acknowledge corporations by naming them only.

*To embed the fonts, you may use the following instructions:
1. For Windows users, the bullzip printer can convert any PDF to have embedded and subsetted fonts.
2. For Linux/Mac users, you may use
pdftops file.pdf
pstopdf -dPDFSETTINGS=/prepress file.pdf

7. The paper should be written in English

If a submitted draft does not conform to the guidelines, it will be rejected without review.

Authors may optionally accompany their papers with additional files, such as multimedia files, to be included on the proceedings’ USB drive. Authors must declare that their contributions are original and are not submitted for publication elsewhere (e.g. another conference, workshop, or journal).

The Author’s Kit comprises of templates for LaTeX and MSWORD and can be downloaded here.

CREATION AND PROOFREADING OF FINAL PDF

It is the author’s responsibility to ensure that submitted papers use the correct styles, fonts, etc. Paper submissions must be in PDF format. The PDF file should comply with the following requirements:

  • There must not be any password protection on the PDF file
  • All fonts must be embedded
  • The file must be ready for text search (i.e. CTRL-F can be used to find a common word in the text such as ‘Conclusion’)

All authors must proofread their PDF file prior to submission to ensure it is ready for publication if the paper is accepted. Authors should not rely on proof-reading the source document – please
proofread the PDF file. The proceedings editors will contact authors of non-complying papers to obtain a replacement, to be submitted by a specified date. To ensure that there is no delay to conference proceedings, papers for which a replacement is not provided by the specified date, will be excluded from the proceedings.

PAPER SUBMISSION POLICY

  1. All papers submitted to Interspeech 2018 must be original contributions that are not currently submitted to any other conference, workshop, or journal, nor will be submitted to any other conference, workshop, or journal during the review process of Interspeech 2018. In all such paper submissions, any use of prior material should be cited by a reference to the source of that prior material, including one’s own work, i.e., if an author uses earlier existing material, whether from one’s own work or that of others, that work should be cited in the paper’s list of references. Any violation of this policy may result in sanctions by ISCA, such as a ban on further submissions to ISCA publications by these authors.
  2. Each accepted paper to an ISCA Event should be presented by one of the authors in person at the meeting site according to the schedule published. Any paper accepted into the technical program, but not presented on-site, WILL be withdrawn from the official proceedings. In exceptional situations (justified in an email request to the TPC Chair), a paper may be presented by a colleague.
  3. Copyright: By each submission of a paper to Interspeech 2018, the author(s) hereby warrant(s) that the manuscript has been submitted to ISCA (the International Speech Communication Association) for publication in the Interspeech 2018 Proceedings, IS ORIGINAL AND HAS NOT BEEN SUBMITTED FOR PUBLICATION OR PUBLISHED ELSEWHERE and that all trademark use within the manuscript has been credited to its owner or written permission to use the name has been granted. In addition, the author(s) acknowledge(s) that all images such as tables, screenshots, graphics, etc., do not have a copyright that is held by a third party. The author also attests that legal permission from the copyright holders has been attained for all multimedia or other materials included in the submission. The author(s) agree(s) to, and hereby assign(s) all rights, title and interest, including copyrights, in and to the manuscript to ISCA. The author(s) retain(s) the rights to any intellectual property developed by the author(s) and included in the manuscript. Note that the ISCA reviewing process is confidential. The copyright is provisionally transferred to ISCA at the time of submission of the article. This copyright is definitively assigned to ISCA if the manuscript is accepted after the reviewing process. If the manuscript is not accepted, the copyright transfer to ISCA is thus abrogated. For any article published in Interspeech proceedings, ISCA grants each author permission to use the article in that author’s dissertation or in institutional repositories (paper and/or electronic versions), provided that the article is correctly referenced (including page numbers and/or paper number). All authors of a paper have the same permission for reprinting, under the same conditions.
  4. Affiliation: Author affiliation should be at the time of final submission of the paper.

PAPER SUBMISSION PROCEDURE

Regular and Special Session papers should be submitted using the START V2 system. You have to fill in the submission form in the START V2 system and upload a pdf of your paper before the deadline (March 16, 2018 midnight GMT). Updates of the pdf file will be permitted until March 23, 2018 midnight GMT.

During submission and paper upload, authors will be asked to determine the scientific area their contribution relates to. A list of scientific areas including special sessions is available here

Paper submissions will be reviewed. Each paper submission will be reviewed by at least three specialists of the area to which it belongs.
